Can I use the same naming pattern for video recordings?

Yes. The naming pattern in Argus applies to both screenshots and screen recordings. The {size} token reflects the capture resolution, and {preset} reflects whichever recording profile you used — so video files come out just as self-describing as images.

What happens if I use a token like {app} when capturing a region instead of a window?

Region captures don't have an associated app bundle, so the {app} token falls back to 'ArgusCapture' as the literal value rather than leaving the field blank. You can also omit {app} from your pattern if you mostly capture regions.

Will Argus overwrite a file if the generated name already exists?

No. Argus checks the output folder before writing and appends -2, -3, and so on if the filename already exists. Your captures are never silently overwritten.

Does the {counter} value persist if I quit and relaunch Argus?

It depends on the reset mode you choose. 'Per session' resets on every launch. 'Per day' resets at midnight. 'Manual' persists indefinitely across launches and days until you reset it yourself in Preferences.

Can I change the naming pattern mid-project without renaming old files?

Yes. Changing the pattern only affects new captures going forward. Existing files keep whatever name they were given — Argus never renames files that are already on disk.
